Henry came to the US in 1868 and worked as a farm laborer in Clifford Twp. (Welsh Settlement) for six years until he bought the first of two farms. (see details from Henry's biography in the Commemorative Biographyt NE Pa. of 1900). Henry hadworked for David Thomas (his father-in-law) for several years before marrying David's daughter, Jane (Jennie) Thomas. He is listed in the 1870 PA census as a worker living with the Thomas household. Henry became a U.S. citizen on Oct 12, 1875. The 1880 census lists Henry as the household head and David Thomas (age 77) living with him. Following the death of Jennie, Henry married Anna D. Campbell Thomas, who was the widow of Jennie's brother, John (See Henry's obit.).
