Obituary: Mrs. Mercy Butler, 405 Main Street, Vandling, widow of David Butler, died December 29 in St.Joseph's Hospital, Carbondale, where she was admitted December 20. Born in South Wales, Mrs. Butler resided in Vandling since early childhood. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Cox. She was a member of the Methodist Church and its WSCS. Her husband, David, died in 1937. Surviving are three sons: [Living], Key West, FL; [Living], Hyattsville, MD, and [Living], of Vandling; three grandchildren and two sisters: Mrs. Beatrice Jones, Union, NY, and Mrs. George Oxendale, Summit Nursing Home, Laurel Run. The funeral will be held from the Jones Funeral Homes, and committal services will be held at the Forest CityMethodist Church. Rev. John Robinson will officiate. The body will be placedtemporarily in the Old Colonial Mausoleum, Uniondale, until spring, when burialwill be at the Welsh Hill Cemetery. Casket Bearers: Walter Davies, Boyd Todd, Thomas Hughes, Fred Bartholomay, Henry Bayless and Richard Pentecost.
